Shark Diving in Hawaii

Shark diving is such a unique and incredible experience and I promise you it is not as scary as it sounds. I thought it would hit me and I would get scared right as we were about to jump into the cage but that never did happen. It was serine rather than anything. I was surprised by how peaceful all of the sharks seemed in the water, they did not seem to be as vicious as everyone makes them out to be.

If you are wondering what shark cage diving is well, it is a cage in the middle of the ocean and you get in and see all of the sharks swim around you. You drive by boat to the cage and it gets attatched to the boat while you get in. You get a mask to see underwater and people usually do these in deeper locations of the ocean where sharks tend to be.
Fun Fact: the sharks are attracted to the cage and the boat because of the motor, they go after fishing boats and try to get the fish they are catching for food and they assume with the sound of the motor that the boat could be a fishing boat. The people working throw a water bottle in so the sharks stay attracted thinking it is a lewer being thrown in to catch fish.

Cage diving is a lot different from free diving with sharks but I have heard that is also an amazing experience. Getting to swim with the sharks and just be all around them apart from a cage. Both are safe it just depends on the experience you are looking for.
When I first got in the cage I got a little nervous because the water was pretty cold and I was just inside of this cage. Eventually as I went underwater and saw the sharks I got a lot more comfortable. They would swim by really close to the cage and as I was in there I got more confident holding onto the bars and even putting my underwater camera outside of the cage. We also got to see the sharks from the boat when we got out of the cage and you get to see the sharks from both angles.

We got to be in the water with Galapagos sharks more specifically. The sharks were calm and curious more than
anything. There was no aggression at all coming from them, they would swim all around and under the cage and I remember thinking to myself how gentle and wonderous they really were to see when you are seeing them inside of their world, underwater.
Sharks are always seen as these aggressive and man eating creatures, like beasts in the water. They have this stereotype around them which is just completely untrue. From being in that cage and even before that I always believed sharks to be a misunderstood animal. They mean well and they eat things to survive like any animal however I just do not think they have senses like humans. I do not think they can always tell what is what.
I have always found sharks fascinating and honestly related them to myself. Sharks always keep swimming because if they don't they suffocate and they often rely on continuous swimming so that they do not sink also. I always felt like I had to keep busy or had to keep moving and if I didn't everything would crash. Sharks are not as scary as well make them out to be, only misunderstood by most, like people.

You are more likely to get struck by lightening then bit or eaten by a shark. We did not see much other marine life but the sharks were really what we went for. I did my experience with my dad and we booked with North Shore Shark Adventures in Haleiwa, Hawaii which is on the Island of Oahu. The entire experience really was a complete wow factor for me, it felt entirely unreal.

If you have ever been on the fence about this I would tell you to do it every single time. Even if you are a bit scared, once you get in the water it's like a weight off of your shoulders just watching the sharks underwater. Once you are told it is time to get back on the boat you will feel like time passed so quickly. I could spend hours just watching the sharks swim all around in the water because they really are beautiful from in there.
Shark diving in the cage really changed but also proved my entire perspective on sharks. What feels intimidating at first often turns to something you are in awe of in the end. There is something that is just so surreal about being face to face with them in their own world surrounded by the quietness of the ocean that I think I will always remember.
